A pine tree is dying from the effects of the mountain pine beetle (dendrotonus ponderosae) in Rocky Mt. Nat'l Park. Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), founded by act of the US Congress in 1915, contains 72 named peaks above 12,000 feet in elevation including the tallest mountain peak in Colorado - Longs Peak at 14,259 feet.
